CIEH Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene

A six-hour training course accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH)

Anyone who handles food as part of their job or works in a food production environment.

The course is designed to give food handlers essential knowledge and understanding of good hygiene practices.

This programme will help you to:
know your responsibilities under the food safety law
understand what bacteria are and how they poison food
recognise the symptoms caused by the main food poisoning bacteria
know how to prevent cross contamination
follow good working practices when accepting deliveries, storing food, cooking and serving food, and cleaning
Answer questions under examination conditions to the standard required.

Delegates will receive:
- A copy of CIEH’s Food Hygiene handbook
- Programme handouts
Programme style
Throughout the day, delegates will be asked to take part in exercises, either in groups or individually.
They will also be asked to complete an examination paper at the end of the course. This is a 30 question multiple choice paper set by the CIEH. The pass mark is 20 or more.
Programme requirements:
Delegates arrive in a positive frame of mind.
Delegates should have a good level of spoken and written English.
Delegates may also find it useful to bring a pen and some paper so that they can take notes.
Further information:
The course can be delivered as one full day, or as two half days.
Dates can be arranged to suit the individual company requirements.
Group size: 5-15 delegates
Training can take place at an organisation’s own site or any location with training facilities.
Further development:
Delegates may wish to progress onto the CIEH Intermediate Certificate in Food Hygiene.
